ABO Wind concludes two PPAs with major US tech company in Spain and Finland

Power Purchase Agreements

(Wiesbaden, 11. December 2023) Renewable energy specialist ABO Wind has concluded Power Purchase Agreements (PPA) for both a wind and a solar energy project with a major US tech company. ABO Wind is currently constructing the wind farm near Illevaara in the Kainuu region in northern Finland. It comprises five Vestas V162 turbines with a total nominal output of 30 megawatts. The Valdezorita Solar Project is located in the Guadalajara Province in central Spain and has an output of 50 megawatts peak.

“From wind energy in Northern Finland to solar energy in Spain: These two PPAs demonstrate our success in realising projects in diverse markets across different technologies. These are sites with excellent wind conditions and solar radiation. We are happy to have found a global offtaker for these two projects that is committed to renewable energies,” says ABO Wind’s General Manager Jochen Starke.

ABO Wind has developed both projects as greenfield projects and will construct them on a turnkey basis. The estimated yield is approximately 100 Gigawatt hours per year for Illevaara Wind Farm and 100 Gigawatt hours per year for Valdezorita Solar Farm. The PPAs are for 100 percent of the volume over a period of ten years. Commissioning of the Finish wind farm and the Spanish solar farm is expected in February 2024 and mid-2025 respectively. The sale of the two projects is currently being negotiated with interested investors.

“We are developing and building a growing number of projects in our 16 international markets without remuneration guaranteed by state governments. Our specialised in-house PPA Department works closely with our Development and Financing Teams to conclude agreements tailored to our customer’s needs that enable final investment decisions,” further adds Jochen Starke.
