The Papoqji’jg Wind Project has taken a significant step forward by signing a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with NB Power. The PPA follows a submission by ABO Energy and Pabineau First Nation into NB Power’s February 2023 Request for Expression of Interest (REOI), which invited wind, solar, tidal, and energy storage proposals.
NB Power issued a press release on May 7, 2025 to share the news: NB Power moves forward with low-cost renewable energy projects

Papoqji’jg Wind would harness wind energy in rural New Brunswick to provide renewable energy directly to the power grid, helping residents and businesses in the province access more clean, renewable energy.
ABO Energy has successfully sold its rights for the Project to the Canadian independent power producer (IPP) Eolectric Inc. They will be responsible for engagement, construction, and the sale of the renewable electricity, with project commissioning targeted for late 2028. Location and Site
Papoqji’jg Wind will be located on Crown Lands in the rural areas of Restigouche and Northumberland County, just southeast of Route 180 near the Caribou Depot site. The City of Bathurst is about 40-50 km northeast.
The proposed wind site was selected for several reasons. These include, but are not limited to, high wind speeds, previous forestry activity at the site, distance from residential areas, along with access to nearby transmission infrastructure and the highway.
2026 Update: Eolectric Inc. has submitted an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Amendment to reflect some changes made following the original EIA submission. You can view the EIA Amendment and newest maps here. The most up-to-date map is found on page 58 of the document.
